Minting

Bearly Bass Token is an art project built on the Ethereum blockchain. Each token is an ERC-721 NFT. The total supply is fixed at 470 tokens. No additional tokens can be created after those 470 are minted.

The main art connected to each token is an audio loop played and recorded by the artist. The token points to the loop and its provenance. The per-token cover image comes with the token. The owner receives exclusive digital rights, and physical reproductions stay with the artist.

Everyone can use the loop audio in audio productions, commercially and non-commercially. The token does not introduce exclusivity over the audio. What it carries is provenance, collectibility, and cultural context.

The minting process

Minting is the on-chain transaction that creates a Bearly Bass Token. The minter chooses which specific loop to mint.

There are two ways to mint. Single token minting creates one token. Batch minting creates all 5 tokens in a series (all 5 musical keys) in a single transaction. For batch minting, the transaction amount equals the sum of all five individual minting amounts.

Minting amounts are public and calculable from the token ID. The minter must send the exact ETH minting amount. If the amount is wrong, the transaction fails.

Primary mints fund the artist and the project. Secondary trades include a 2.5% royalty to the artist.

Gas fee risk: before minting, the contract checks whether the token has already been minted. If someone else mints the same token at the same time, the slower transaction fails and gas fees are lost.

Minting tiers and amounts

The collection uses a 4-tier minting system. Each tier is based on the tempo (BPM) of the loop. Each tier groups loops by tempo range.

Within each series, the minting amount increases progressively across the five musical keys. Key A has the lowest minting amount. Key G has the highest. No series is entirely low-priced or entirely high-priced. Every series contains a range.

Early mint discount

Tier 1 and Tier 2 tokens mint at the early-mint discount while the window is open. Both single mints and batch mints qualify. The window closes once 47 tokens have been minted across the collection. Full discount terms live on Collecting.

Token ID format

Each token ID is a 4-digit self-describing number. The digits encode the token's characteristics:

  • First digit (thousands): minting tier (1-4)
  • Middle digits (hundreds/tens): loop ID (1-94 in the catalog)
  • Last digit (ones): musical key (1 = A, 2 = C, 3 = D, 4 = E, 5 = G)

The smart contract decodes any token ID to determine its minting amount and characteristics, with no external data needed.

Token metadata

Token metadata includes standard NFT fields: name, description, image, and animation_url. The animation_url field is included for marketplace compatibility.

The loop_audio field contains a link to the canonical master WAV file for that token's loop. The audio_sha256 field is a SHA-256 cryptographic hash of the audio file. The signed_provenance field contains an artist-signed provenance payload. The image field points to the per-token cover from the visual system.

Musical attributes are included as filterable traits: Key, BPM, Groove, Progression, Scale, Style, and Technique.

Metadata targets IPFS for content-addressed storage.

Provenance and verification

Three signals support provenance.

The audio_sha256 hash allows anyone to verify that a WAV file matches the canonical master. Take the WAV, compute its SHA-256 hash, compare it to the field in the token metadata. A browser-only verifier tool does the full check in-page. It fetches the metadata, hashes the audio, checks the artist signature, and reports the result. The source is viewable. Nothing leaves your browser.

The signed_provenance payload can be verified against the creator's published signing address. This confirms the recording was signed by the original creator and establishes authenticity and origin.

Every IPFS CID for Bearly Bass content (metadata, audio, and cover image) contains the substring brlybass. The prefix is mined into each CID through proof-of-work before the content is pinned. It is a recognizable signal, visible at a glance in any IPFS gateway, block explorer, or marketplace listing.

Together, the hash confirms the file is unaltered, the signature confirms who published it, and the prefix marks the content as part of the collection.

The metadata, audio, and cover-image CAR files are pinned, and available on request so anyone can pin them too.

Included with the token

  • The ERC-721 token representing a specific loop recording
  • The token points to the canonical master WAV in the metadata
  • The token owner becomes the canonical steward of that loop recording
  • The token can be sold, traded, and transferred on any ERC-721 marketplace
  • The smart contract can verify whether all 5 tokens in a series belong to the same owner
  • Exclusive digital rights to the per-token cover image (avatar use, digital merchandise, derivatives, streams, projections)
A 2.5% secondary-sale royalty to the artist is included.

Not included with the token

Token ownership does not grant exclusive usage rights to the loop audio. The audio is publicly licensed under a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable public audio license. Everyone can use the loop audio, commercially and non-commercially.

Token owners do not receive ownership of the underlying musical composition, the Bearly Bass name, logos, wordmarks, or other brand rights.

The token, site, and linked media are provided “as is” with no warranties. Blockchain transactions can fail and incur network fees.

For authoritative details on rights and restrictions, see the full license.

Secondary sales and trading

Token owners can sell, trade, and transfer their tokens on any ERC-721-compatible marketplace. A 2.5% secondary-sale royalty to the artist is included on secondary sales.

Looking ahead

Future collections, exhibitions, and integrations are planned but non-binding. Wallets holding a complete series (all 5 keys of the same loop) may be eligible for perks tied to those items. See the Roadmap for current targets, timelines, and perk details.
